Lindy Tackle Fishing Report

10-22-11
The edges of the reefs and shoreline points have still been really good. The 12-18' range has been good and sometimes 20-23'. Vertical rip-jigging a 1/4oz. jig/shiner has been triggering them. The guys fishing at night have still been doing good too. They are mostly trolling crankbaits across reeftops with small crankbaits such as Lindy Shadlings.
I will be winterizing the boat this week..

10-19-11
The walleyes are biting really good on jig/minnow combos. We are getting them off the edges of reefs and shoreline points. Some spots we are getting them in the 25'-27' and in some spots they are shallower like 12'-20' . We've been triggering the fish by "rip-jigging" in a vertical manner. You lift the bait hard about 2 feet straight up and let it fall fast. The fish hit it on the fall and then when you go to jig it again, they are on! It is a blast. The wind has been making it a little difficult to fish on some days but we've been fishing on the calm side of the lake and finding piles of fish..
Looks like some beautiful weather is on it's way. Only a few days of fishing left this fall!

10-10-11
We started using livebait for the walleyes part of the time this week in addition to trolling leadcore. The fish are biting well on both jig/shiners and rig/redtails in the 22'-27' range. The perch are still hitting in the same depths on jig/fathead combos. We are finding them on the electronics and then power-jigging individual pods of fish.

10-5-11
Fishing has been the most consistent in the mornings. The walleyes are still hitting crankbaits in the deep water and the perch are hitting jigs and minnows.

10-2-11
The sand is still putting out fish. It has been kind of hit or miss on other days. The most consistent bite has been the basin trolling and some of the shoreline transitions. The perch bite is getting really good on the shorelines also. Lots of really nice perch are being caught on jigs and minnows.

9-27-11
Fish have been coming of the Northeast sand in the 24'-27' range on crankbaits such as Lindy #5 Shadlings. The basin has also been producing a lot of big fish and some keepers in some areas. The shoreline transition areas have been starting to put out quite a few nice perch in the 24' range also. The fall colors are just starting to come out and the October fishing looks like it will be great.

9-21-11
Fishing has been very good again lately. We've been getting a lot of nice fish slip-bobbering on the shallow rocks in 7-10' on the windy days. Yesterday we had two 27's and a 28" along with some other big fish, we also kept 10 keepers for a 6-hour trip.
On the calmer days we've been trolling the basin areas with leadcore in 31' and also the shoreline transitions in 24'-26'. The perch bite has been good as well with quite a few jumbos mixed in with the walleyes everyday. It is looking like the fall bite is going to be dynamite again this year.

9-14-11
Fishing has been consistently good in the last few days regardless of weather. The northeast sand transition areas were good in 28-29' the last couple days trolling leadcore and fish have been coming off the rocks in 8-10' with some wind.

9-5-11
Fishing has slowed a little in the last week. Some days have been good, some days have been slow. We are getting them on the shallow rocks on the windy/overcast days in 7-10' and out in the basin in 28-31' on the calm days.

8-26-11
Fishing has been good in the basin areas way out away from structure. Fish are being caught on #5 Shad Raps and Lindy Shadlings in the 33' depths. Look for fish on the bottom and up to about 21'. On the breezy days, the 8'-10' rocks have been good with bobbers or trolling crankbaits on a flatline. We've been getting a lot of jumbo perch mixed in with the walleyes. The north end sand to basin transition has been getting better by the day and should be really good by labor day weekend.

8-22-11
The basin bite has been good on some days and slower on other days. We are trolling Lindy Shadlings and Shadraps. The shallow rocks have also been pretty good on the windy, overcast days. The northeast sand seems to be getting better, with more fish showing up everyday. That bite should keep getting better well into September. We've been getting a lot of keepers with the 20" slot allowing us to keep those nice 19"ers.

8-13-11
The bite has been day to day this week. Some days have been good, some days have been a little more hit and miss. We've been getting a lot of keepers though, with the average keeper ratio being about 2/3 fish.
The perch continue to be active with a lot of jumbos being mixed in with the walleyes, especially on the mud and basin areas. The smallies are active but in deep water. Today we caught one in 33'! The bite should pick up as water temps drop in the next week or so.

8-6-11
The leadcore-trolling bite has been good. We are getting fish in the 28'-32' depths on Lindy Shadlings and Rapala Shad Raps. The tops of mud flats and gravel bars have been putting out a nice mix of keepers and bigger fish. The shallow rocks have been good also on the windy days in the 4'-7' depths.

7-28-11
The mornings have continued to be very good. The shallow rocks have been good on the windy days, the basin areas adjacent to the deep gravel has been good trolling leadcore and crankbaits on the calmer days. Muskies are starting to be caught fairly consistently also. In case you haven't heard, the slot has now opened up so we can KEEP UP TO 20" slots the rest of the year!!

7-25-11
Fishing is still awesome. We've been doing really good in the mornings and then if the wind blows, the afternoons are good too. If it lays flat-calm the afternoons have been a grind, but we are still getting a few by power-bobbering. The mud flats have been very consistent lindy-rigging and trolling leadcore and crankbaits. We've also started getting a lot of fish on the shallow rocks on the windy days. Both bobbering and trolling crankbaits have been working there.
The north end basin areas have started producing some fish also and that bite will only get better as summer gets later. Call today for openings.
-Jeff

7-18-11
Fishing has been great. We've been fishing out on the mud flats using mostly Lindy Rigs with leeches and crawlers. The fish are biting really well. Some days the fish are in 25-26', some days they are in 30'-33'. The size of fish we are catching really depends on the spot. Sometimes they are all 20-26", then we'll go to the next spot and they'll run in the 16"-21" range with plenty of keepers. With the tullibee population in Mille Lacs back to a healthy range, the 27" fish are growing up into the 28-29" class and we've been seeing more over 28 this year than in the last couple years. I expect that by the end of the month, we'll be doing a lot more leadcore trolling. We've still been getting a few jumbo perch everyday mixed in with the walleyes too. Fishing is really good right now and it's been a lot of fun with a great rigging bite lasting well into July!

7-7-11
Crushed them out on the mud today, had about 30 fish by noon. The fish are still biting lindy rigs with both leeches and crawlers really well and the bite from June seems to be continuing well into July. I anticipate that we'll be started to do some trolling soon, but as long as live-bait is working, I'll be lindy rigging.

7-1-11
July is already here, it is hard to believe June is already over. The fish are still biting really good. We've been getting them on the deep gravel in 28-31' and on the mud flats in 26'-33' depending on the day. Lindy Rigging with leeches and crawlers has been working. Spinners are also working. We've started doing a little leadcore trolling and they are hitting the cranks as well. In the next couple weeks, we will be switching over to more trolling with cranks and less fishing with livebait. I had a smallmouth trip also this past week and did pretty well casting Rattle-Raps on reeftops in about 5'. Call for questions about fishing or available days in July-763.477.8553.

6-27-11
The fish are still biting on the mud flats and deep gravel bars. We've been finding that almost everything is working from power-bobbering to spinners to Lindy rigging. We've even started pulling some leadcore and crankbaits already too. We've been getting a lot of keepers (under 18") on some spots and a lot of big fish (21"-26") on other spots. The smallmouths have been hitting on reeftops in 5'-7' on crankbaits.
June has been great and July should be also!
Call for availability.

6-19-11
Fishing the past couple days has been great. Great weather, overcast skies, calm winds and no rain have made it comfortable to fish and they've been biting! We've been fishing the deep gravel transition areas in 26'-29' with Lindy Rigs and leeches. We've also been fishing the mud flats with Lindy Rigs and leeches. Fish are also being caught with spinners and crawlers and some fish are still coming of the sand in the NE corner of the lake. Smallmouths have been hitting spinners and plastics on the rocks in 3'-5'. We've been getting a few nice jumbo perch mixed in with the walleyes everday and the keepers have been fairly easy to come by.
Fishing should remain very good into July when we will be switching to trolling leadcore and crankbaits most of the time around the mud flats, gravel and basin areas.

6-12-11
The past week has been the best of the season so far. The fish have been biting really good on both leeches and crawlers in the 25-27' gravel to sand transition areas and also on the mud flats in 24'-27'. Lots of keepers in some spots and lots of bigger fish in other spots. We have still been lindy rigging for the most part and doing a little bobber fishing. I anticipate that live-bati fishing will continue to stay great throught the end of the month. Then we will be switching over to trolling crankbaits on leadcore line around the 4th of July.

6-4-11
Today was a great day. We caught fish along a shoreline break in the morning in about 16'-20' rigging with leeches. We then went out to the mud flats and found a lot of fish out there. Some spots had more than others. It seemed like the fish bit better where there weren't many boats harassing them and they prefered leeches in the morning and then seemed to switch to crawlers in the afternoon. Fish are definitely still in transition out to their summer spots and more fish should keep showing up on the mud flats by the hour!
Fishing should start to peak in the next couple weeks.

6-1-11
June is finally here! Fishing was good again this past weekend. Fish were still being caught on the north sand from Knox Point to Agate Bay. This bite will slow down from now on as water temps. keep going up and up. We are definitely in the "transition" period. Many fish have already progressed to deeper mud flats and gravel bars and we are on the brink of the "summer peak" when fish are at their most aggressive and fishing is at it's finest for a few weeks. We will be able to catch fish almost everywhere, using a plethora of techniques, including lindy rigging, trolling spinners, trolling leadcore, bobber-fishing and power-bobbering.
Check back often for reports!

5-22-11 2nd Weekend:
Fishing was unbelievable on saturday. The weather was miserable as it was cold and rained non-stop all day, but the fish were jumping in the boat! We drifted lindy-rigs in 14'-19' on the north sand and caught fish after fish. The smaller male keepers finally got active and we kept a limit and probably tossed 10 smaller keepers back as we held out for the 17 inchers.
Sunday was a little slower and the keepers were harder to come by as the fish seemed to run bigger. The sand bite should hold up another week or so and the fish will start sliding deeper and transitioning out to there summer spots.

5-14-11 Opener:
I have seen better and worse openers as far as fishing goes, but I don't think I've seen a colder fishing opener as far as the weather goes. Temps in the 40's along with high winds and steady rain made it down right miserable!
However, we did catch some fish and it turned out being a pretty good day.
Fish were in the typical shoreline spots on the sand and rocks. We lindy-rigged in about 17' with leeches on the sand in the NE portion of the lake. Bobbers on the shallow rocks also got some fish.
Catching bigger fish wasn't a problem, but getting fish under 18" was difficult as we only kept 3 for the day out of about 15 boated.
As weather warms up the water temps this week, fishing should really improve.
